Dobie Diches, Inc.

Dobie Dichos started in 2011 at the suggestion of Dobie Dichos emcee and author, William Sibley, and via the instigation of former George West Storyfest Exec. Director, Mary Margaret Campbell. The yearly event (always the first Friday in November) honors Live Oak County’s most famous son, J. Frank Dobie, and celebrates Dobie’s works and contributions to literature, folklore, and storytelling. Invited Texas writers/authors and storytellers (some famous, some infamous!) read from, discuss, debate and/or tell stories from the works of J. Frank Dobie on the grounds of the Historic Oakville Jail, located in Oakville, TX on IH37 in Live Oak County (between Three Rivers and George West.)

Dobie West Performing Arts Theatre

In 2004, the owners of the historical movie theatre (West Theatre) were given to a group of citizens in George West. It was decided that the theatre could be renovated and made into a performing arts theatre. Thus the Dobie West Performing Arts Theatre in George West was established. After years of grant applications, raffles, dinners, the Dobie West Performing Arts Theatre was a reality.
Dobie West Performing Arts Theatre is operated solely for the purpose of performing the art, craft, and history of the performing arts, providing a venue whereby children and adults will have the opportunity to perform literature through plays, storytelling, music, and dance; assisting local performance in developing their skills; educating the community concerning the value of performing arts in the contemporary life, and serving the community through educational and cultural experiences. ghstraus@ymail.com
